Gatineau Olympiques forward Claude Giroux was named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's player of the month on Monday.
Chad Denny of the Lewiston Maineiacs was given the defensive honour while Val-d'Or Foreurs forward Julius Sinkovic was named rookie of the month.
Giroux had nine goals anad six assists in six games for Gatineau in September. The other players considered were forwards Alexandre Picard-Hooper (5-9-14) of Baie-Comeau, Thomas Beauregard (9-6-15) of Acadie-Bathurst and Danick Bouchard (7-5-12) of Shawinigan.
Denny had two goals and seven assist while maintaining a plus-3 for Lewiston. Goaltenders Jean-Christophe Blanchard of the Victoriaville Tigres and Bobby Nadeau of the Chicoutimi Sagueneens along with defenceman Martin Frechette of the Olympiques.
Sinkovic had three goals and six assists and is second among rookies in scoring, trailing only Randy Cameron of the Moncton Wildcats by one point.
